COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. S. 184. It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in duplicate, which should clearly marked "Tender for Ferries", will be received at the Colonial Secretary's fice until Noon on the 30th day of September, 1918, for a licence for the exclusive main- hance of ferry services within the area defined in Regulation 1 of the Regulations made the Governor in Council under section 5 of the Ferries Ordinance, 1917, Ordinance ju. 28 of 1917, on the 30th day of May, 1918, and published in the Gazette on the 31st ay of May, 1918, as Government Notification No. 204, between Yaumati, Mongkoktsui Sham Shui Po on the North and that part of the coast line of the Island of Hongkong hich lies between Blake Pier on the east and Belchers Point on the west.

Every tender and licence shall be subject to the regulations made under the Ferries linance, 1917, by the Governor in Council on the 30th day of May, 1918, and published the Gazette on the 31st day of May, 1918, as Government Notification No. 204 and to y regulation for the time being amending the same. The term of the licence shall be ree years to cominence on the 1st day of January, 1919.

The ferry vessels to be provided by the licensee shall be duly surveyed and licensed ler section 37 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, as enacted by the Merchant ipping Amendment Orlinance, 1917, section 3. They shall be capable of a speed of less than 93 knots, and shall be fitted with a navigation bridge, with water-tight kheads, and with a grille, approved by the larbour Master, separating the first class commodation in the bow from the rest of the launch. They shall be painted in such ours as the Harbour Master may direct, and shall be of such beam and depth as the arbour Master may approve.

It is intended that the initial standard ferry service shall be one which is capable of ing maintained by 12 ferry vessels, of not less than 70 feet overall measurement and th a speed of not less than 9 knots, two of the vessels being ferry vessels in reserve. ac tenderers are at liberty to submit with their tenders lists which vary from the above andard as regards the lengths and number of the ferry vessels, but no such tender will accepted unless in the opinion of the Harbour Master the ferry vessels contained in y such list are capable of providing the same standard of ferry service as is indicated

Every tenderer must submit with his tender a list of maximum charges for the rriage of animals, birds, goods, merchandise, minerals and parcels,

Every tenderer must deposit with the Colonial Treasurer the sum of $1,000 as urity and shall forward the Treasurer's receipt therefor to the Colonial Secretary with Stender which amount will be returned to the unsuccessful tenderer in accordance ith the regulations.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest or any tender.
